According to a report from the Pittsburgh Pirates' official Twitter (@Pirates), the Bucs have traded 27-year-old '06 16th Round pick, catcher Kris Watts, to the Washington Nationals in return for cash considerations. The veteran of seven seasons in the Pirates' system after he was drafted out of Santa Clara University with the 470th pick of the 2006 Draft, is a 6'1', 210lb right-handed throwing, left-handed hitting catcher/outfielder who has a combined .259/.357/.385 line as part of the Pirates' organization. In 28 plate appearances this year with Triple-A Indianapolis, Watts has a .250/.357/.392 line with a double, four walks and two K's in nine games. Watts has a .992 career fld% as a catcher and a career 29% CS% in 372 minor league games behind the plate.

The Nationals have suffered significant damage to the catching depth in the organization this season with Wilson Ramos (torn ACL), Sandy Leon (high ankle sprain) and Carlos Maldonado (back) all missing time. The Nationals haven't officially announced that they've acquired Kris Watts from the Pirates, but Pittsburgh released the news via their official team Twitter late Thursday night:
