Nonprofit Credit Counseling Agency Announces Free Help Available for South Florida Homeowners to Avoid Foreclosure

Lighthouse Point, FL (PRWEB) ? ?Debt Management Credit Counseling Corp,?a nonprofit organization (DMCC), announced today that it still has grant funds available from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide?free foreclosure prevention assistance?to homeowners in Broward County and Palm Beach County, Florida. DMCC was awarded a grant in March as part of more than $42 million in housing counseling grants awarded by HUD to 468 national, regional and local organizations. Homeowners interested in taking advantage of this free service should contact DMCC immediately while funding and resources remain available.

DMCC housing counselors will review all options to avoid foreclosure with the homeowner and recommend the option that best meets their financial situation. If obtaining a loan modification is a recommended solution that the homeowner desires, DMCC will help the homeowner prepare and submit the required documents to their lender. ?Our goal is to identify all available options for the homeowner to avoid foreclosure, and assist them in implementing the option they choose?, said Jeremy Montanti, DMCC Housing Director.

DMCC provides this service free of charge to homeowners, along with personal budget counseling and other financial education.?Debt management plans?to assist consumers with the repayment of credit card accounts are also available. Lower credit card payments obtainable through debt management plans, combined with budgeting, is an option that may provide sufficient relief for homeowners to enable them to afford their monthly mortgage payment.

In order for homeowners to maximize the options available to them to avoid foreclosure, it is imperative that they seek assistance as soon as they know they will not be able to meet their mortgage payments. Once a mortgage lender commences foreclosure proceedings, many options cease to be available. DMCC cautions that homeowners who have already received a foreclosure notice from their lender with a Date of Sale are recommended to seek legal counsel for assistance. Homeowners wishing to take advantage of this free service should contact DMCC at 866-618-3328, Monday through Thursday 9:00am to 5:00pm ET or Friday 9:00am to 3:00pm ET, and ask to speak with a housing counselor.

Synaptics spills more details on ForcePad, a pressure-sensitive trackpad coming to laptops in 2013

DNP EMBARGO Synaptics unveils pressuresensitive ForcePad as an alternative to traditional touchpads

We spend an awful lot of time in laptop reviews railing against modern trackpads -- you know, the ones that mistake left clicks for right ones, or have a really stiff button mechanism. Well, it looks like relief might be on the way. Synaptics (easily the largest touchpad maker of 'em all) just spilled more details on ForcePad, a pressure-sensitive pad that responds differently depending on how much you bear down with your fingers. Before we get into possible use cases, though, it's important to clarify this: there is no mechanical touch button, meaning those stiff hinges we've been complaining about should be moot. Rather, if you want to "left click" or "right click" you'll need to push against the pad with your finger. When you do this, you'll get the littlest bit of tactile feedback, along with a sound effect. (You can turn those off.)

All told, the pad responds to up to 1,000 grams of pressure, and recognizes 64 different levels of sensitivity. As you can imagine, this feature is likely to come in handy with drawing apps, but Synaptics also imagines it being used in gaming. With scrolling, too, you can page through documents quickly or slowly, depending on how hard you press the trackpad. Additionally, the pad recognizes up to five fingers at once, and can tell when you're applying more pressure with one finger than another. For now, Synaptics won't name any future products that will use this technology, so don't put any stock in that Lenovo machine used in the first demo video below -- it's just a U300s retrofitted with a ForcePad. But, a company rep did say we'd start seeing ForcePad-enabled laptops at CES in January, so expect lots of notebook news then.

Comedic actor William Windom dead at 88

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? William Windom, who won an Emmy Award for his turn in the 1969 TV comedy series "My World And Welcome To It" and went on to score guest appearances on several popular shows, has died.

Windom died Thursday of congestive heart failure at his home in Woodacre, north of San Francisco, his wife Patricia told the Los Angeles Times. He was 88.

Windom won acclaim in the short-lived NBC series for his role as John Monroe, a writer-cartoonist for a New York magazine who relied on his fantasy life to escape a middle-class Connecticut life.

The series was based on the work of the humorist James Thurber and Windom went on to develop a one-man touring act inspired by the same whimsical Americana.

Born in New York City on Sept. 28, 1923, Windom was named after his great-grandfather, a Minnesota congressman and former U.S. Treasury secretary. He attended Williams College in Massachusetts before joining the Army as a paratrooper in World War II. He later attended the University of Kentucky, among several other higher-education institutions, and decided to pursue acting.

The easy-going Windom was an in-demand television character actor for decades and scored guest appearances on several American TV staples, including episodes of "Twilight Zone" and "Star Trek" and appeared on more than 50 segments of "Murder, She Wrote" beginning in the mid-1980s. There, Windom played a Maine country doctor opposite series star Angela Lansbury's Jessica Fletcher.

He also played the part of the prosecuting attorney who parries in court with Gregory Peck's Atticus Finch in the 1962 movie "To Kill a Mockingbird."

Married five times, Windom is survived by his wife of 37 years and four children, Rachel, Heather, Hope and Rebel.

Lennon fears Euro struggle for Celtic

Celtic manager Neil Lennon fears his injury-hit side could struggle to reach the money-spinning Champions League group stages this season after they laboured to a 1-1 draw against minnows Ross County on Saturday.

The Hoops had almost a full starting 11 missing for the game against First Division champions Ross County, with key players such as Scott Brown, Anthony Stokes, Gary Hooper, James Forrest and Ki Sung-Yeung out injured.

Both sides had chances to open the scoring before Richard Brittain scored a sensational free-kick in the 49th minute to hand County the lead.

The Highlanders, who as a First Division club dished out a 2-0 defeat to the Hoops in the 2010 Scottish Cup semi-final, looked to be holding on for another shock win before Kris Commons tapped in an equaliser with virtually the last kick of the game.

Lennon's side now face Swedish side Helsingborgs on Tuesday as they aim to secure a place in the Champions League for the first time since 2008.

With rivals Rangers languishing in the Third Division, the revenue generated by reaching the group stages of Europe's elite competition could be vital to the Parkhead club.

"It's a big game for the club. There is a big jackpot at the end of it," Lennon said.

"For the players, and this is my main concern, it's a chance to develop themselves and enhance themselves at the highest level.

"We've got two tough games coming up against Helsingborgs and if we play like we did against Ross County it might be a bit of a struggle.

"But they showed great character and that will give them a huge lift going into Tuesday although we are expecting a far better performance overall."

Celtic have made an unconvincing start to the defence of their Scottish Premier League title with Saturday's draw coming on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over Aberdeen on opening day.

Lennon admitted some of his players had been suffering a hangover from the midweek internationals but expected his side to be boosted by the return of several players for the match against Helsingborgs.

"It has been a difficult week for some of them. Some of them have travelled for internationals and played and then travelled back," Lennon added.

"Sometimes you have to take that into consideration. They are human beings at the end of the day and they are expected to go out and be brilliant every week and that's not always going to happen.

"We've always had problems at times, even when I played, with the games after international games so I expected it to be difficult and tough for them but I expected us to play a little bit better.

"We were 11 players short and four strikers short so to come away without losing the game is good. We are hoping Brown, Forrest, Hooper and Paddy McCourt will all train on Sunday.

"We gave a rest to Thomas Rogne because he's played a lot of football so he will come back into contention as well. That's five that are going to be added to the squad already.

"In terms of the rest of the guys Anthony Stokes is a big doubt and Darryl Murphy will not make it."

Spiraling Debt Puts Atlanta Symphony at Financial Crossroads ...

With its accumulated budget deficit growing by millions of dollars a year, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra faces increasingly dire financial straits as it negotiates a new deal with its 93 musicians, writes the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The debt, which has grown from $1.1-million in 2004 to a projected $19.8-million next year, looms large in fractious talks over a new contract with the Atlanta players, whose current four-year deal expires Aug. 25.

Cuts in the orchestra?s size, the members? pay scale, and the length of seasonal contracts are on the table, but with the new season set to begin Oct. 4, reducing the ensemble?s concert schedule is reportedly not under consideration.

The players? union has offered $1 million in reduced positions and cutbacks in pay and health-care benefits, while management is seeking $3.1 million in concessions. The president of the orchestra, Stanley Romanstein, said that without significant steps to contain labor costs, ?we?re playing Russian roulette with the future of the Atlanta Symphony.?
