Watch: Banksy Sells Original Artwork In NYC Without Anyone Knowing About It

For the past week or so, famed graffiti artist Banksy has been running all over NYC, NY putting up new artwork for fans to seek out and admire for an art residency he is calling Better Out Than In. As is his style, Banksy has been working in secret installing his graffiti artwork and, in some instances, orchestrating elaborate art installations. On Saturday, Banksy set up a stall next to Central Park where he sold original spray paint artwork for $60 each, a HUGE bargain considering his artwork sells for $10,000+ at auction. The only problem for collectors was that no one knew that the stall was selling original Banksy pieces. Big cities like NYC have lots of bootleg stalls that sell cheap reproductions of Banksy‘s work so, it makes sense why most people would overlook a stall featuring “his artwork”. The Art Sale was just the latest of Banky‘s brilliant art installations. The video above, published on Banksy‘s official website, shows the world how his Art Sale went. I have to say, this is just brilliant. I see these stalls all the time in both LA and NYC. I walk past them ALL the time. To think, folks had an opportunity to purchase an original Banksy for just $60 right there on the streets of NYC and only a few people took advantage — not knowing they had hit the jackpot — is just freaking BRILLIANT! As I understand it, Banksy is only halfway thru his NYC residency so there should be more opportunities for the artist to punk the city. No word on whether or not Banksy will then move to another city for a residency there but it should be fun to keep an eye on him for the next few weeks. Gah. Banksy has pulled some great stunts … but this one has to be my fave. Well done, sir. Very well done.
