NJSLA Jobs: Internships available at the Bronx Zoo (WCS)

all 2012 WCS Archives Internships

The Wildlife Conservation Society Archives (headquartered at the Bronx Zoo) is accepting applications for internships from graduate students seeking to gain experience in archives, libraries, or museums.? Two internship projects are available, both under the supervision of professional library staff:?

Processing and description internships: projects include surveying, arranging, and describing archival collections; entering data into an archival management system; and creating EAD finding aids.

Art collection management internship: projects include surveying artwork held throughout the Bronx Zoo, performing research on artists and items, and recording information in a collections management database.? Other duties may include making conservation recommendations as needed

?

Interns must schedule their work Monday through Friday, 10-5, and must be willing to commit at least 120 hours to the internship.? Participants may arrange to receive course credit.? WCS Archives internships are unpaid.

About the organization:

Founded in 1895 as the New York Zoological Society, the Wildlife Conservation Society is committed to saving wildlife and wild places worldwide.? This initiative is carried out through science, global conservation, education, and the management of the world?s largest system of urban wildlife parks, led by the flagship Bronx Zoo.? Documenting the history of this work, the WCS Archives includes records related to the histories of the Bronx Zoo, the New York Aquarium, international field work projects, and other WCS institutions and activities.? In addition to print records, the Archives also manages WCS?s art collection, which consists of paintings, sketches, and sculptures, primarily of wildlife and scientific specimens.

?

How to apply:

Interested individuals should send a resume and a cover letter indicating which internship project they are applying for and describing what they hope to bring to the internship and gain from the experience.? Materials should be sent to library@wcs.org.? Applications will be considered until the positions are filled.
